It's a very common perception that in order to suffer a concussion, one must actually be "knocked out" or lose consciousness for a time.  This is a misconception that many in the general public and some professionals believe.  One study defines this very well:
"Concussion is a trauma induced alteration in mental status that may or may NOT involve loss of consciousness." More than 30 years ago the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, concluded that head injury leading to Mental status alterations without loss of consciousness is also a form of concussion.
The symptoms of of concussion can sometimes be very similar to a Whiplash injury after an Auto Accident.
Some of these are: Headaches, Dizziness, Hearing disturbances, psychological symptoms, visual disturbances, altered smell and taste, disruption of cognitive function and sleep disturbances.
Following an auto accident a person should be aware of some warning signs such as:
1. Did they hit their head?
2.  Did they lose consciousness?
3.  Was there some amnesia?
4  Did they experience confusion?
5. Have they been forgetful?
6.  Do they have sensitivity to light or noise?
7  Have they become somewhat clumsy?
8  Have they experienced pronounced lethargy, or drowsiness?
Post Concussion syndrome is quite common after an Auto Accident. Seek a Medical Professionals help if you experience some of these issues.
