Studies are strong that injuries of the spine sustained in an auto accident can lead to degeneration of the spine. There is a lot of evidence that suggests that trauma and whiplash injuries can accelerate the development of cervical spondylosis with degenerative disk disease or osteoarthritis. This is substantiated by numerous studies. *Hohl found degenerative changes in 39% of whiplash patients 5 years after the rear-end collision.
